LONGMEADOW — The town of Longmeadow is now looking for warrant article submissions for the May 7 Annual Town Meeting.
Articles both from town departments or boards, as well as from the public, must be submitted by Feb. 24. The exception to the deadline are zoning proposals that would require drafting and review. Those submissions must be made earlier.
Town Manager Robin Crosbie was not available to comment on how much earlier such zoning proposals should be submitted in order to be approved for the meeting when her office was contacted by Reminder Publications.
Submissions from town departments and boards must contain at least three things — the proposed article, a narrative describing the purpose of the article and the estimated cost of the article.
The proposals should be submitted in writing on the form that can be found at the Select Board's office or on the Select Board page located on the town's Web site —
http://www.long-meadow.org/towngovt/selman.htm .
Citizens that wish to have a guarantee that their articles will be added to the warrant must submit a petition with the signatures of at least 10 registered voters from the town of Longmeadow. Petitions must also be certified by Town Clerk Katherine Ingram.
While articles submitted by town departments and boards will be properly formatted by Crosby or by town counsel, citizen petitions will be added to the warrant verbatim if approved. Therefore, it is the burden of the citizen submitting the proposal to ensure the proposal is in order.
For more information on the submission of warrant articles, visit the Select Board office at Town Hall, visit the Select Board page on the town Web site or call the Select Board office at 565-4110.
