LONGMEADOW Twin Hills Country Club is taking a swing at reopening.

"We want to restore the club to what it was, for the benefit of its members," Naldo Mammarelli, treasurer of the Twin Hills Board, told the Select Board at its April 6 meeting.

Twin Hills Board member Mammarelli, along with Attorney Lealand B. Seabury, approached the board to request a restaurant and a liquor license for the club. Mammarelli noted that the club's dining room would be open to the public "to try to get new members to the club."

"It will be family-oriented," Mammarelli said. "The liquor license would be to supplement the dining."

Select Board Clerk William Scibelli stated that all bartenders and servers would have to be TIPS certified -- TIPS, meaning Training for Intervention Procedures, is "the global leader in education and training for the responsible service, sale and consumption of alcohol," according to the Web site www.tipsalcohol.com.

Rick Hebert will be serving as the manager of the club's dining facilities.

The Select Board approved the licenses by a vote of 4 -- 0.

Twin Hills Country Club will be hosting the 2009 Western Massachusetts Tee Party, this year honoring Daril Pacinella, PGA.

According to a release about the event, the Tee Party is "proud to join one of the premier golf professionals with one of the premier courses in Western Massachusetts."

Pacinella has been serving the Western Massachusetts golf community for 25 years, and is respected as one of the best teachers in the area, instructing some of the region's top players and beginners alike.

The event will be taking place April 30 at Twin Hills Country Club on Wolf Swamp Road, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start (limited to 32 fivesomes). There will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start added if needed.

For golf and dinner, the cost is $80 per player, and golfers must sign up in fivesomes. Dinner only costs $30 per person.

Please send completed application and a deposit check to Tim Quirk, PGA, Twin Hills Country Club, 700 Wolf Swamp Rd., Longmeadow, MA 01106. For more information, call 567-0181.
