Veteran, new faces win seats on Longmeadow Select Board, School Committee

LONGMEADOW – Incumbent Mark Gold and newcomer Dan Zwirko were elected to three-year terms on the Select Board in the Town Election of June 14, while Julie Heaney Margetta Morgan and Zachary Verriden were each chosen to fill a three-year term on the School Committee.

A total of 1,517 voters, 12.61 percent of those eligible, turned out at the polls. Gold received 860 votes and Zwirko received 1,087. Richard Foster, who had previously served on the Select Board, had 438 voters support him. Andrew Berke, who announced he was dropping out of the race several weeks ago, nonetheless, received 96 votes.

Four candidates ran for the two seats on the School Committee. Julie Heaney Margetta Morgan received the most votes with 780, while 558 cast their ballot for Zachary Verriden. Scott Bombardier received 493 votes and 487 people voted for Carrissa Ann Rosenblum.

There were several other elected seats with single candidates. The Planning Board had three seats up for election. Bruce E. Colton was elected to a five-year term, Cheryl Thibodeau was elected to a three-year term and Christopher Legiadre was elected to a two-year term.

Jamie Hensch was elected to a two-year term on the School Committee; David L. Marinelli was elected to a five-year term on the Housing Authority. There was also a three-year term on the Housing Authority on the ballot. Write-in votes recorded for that seat was successful, but the winner’s name was not available at press time
