By Lori O' Brien Correspondent SOUTH HADLEY The Valley Christian School is sponsoring a unique fundraiser on June 10 that incorporates auction and tag sale items and antique appraisals that promises something of interest for everyone. Festivities run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the school on Hadley Street. There is no admission fee for any of the day's events. Organizers hope to raise at least $10,000 from the fundraiser which includes a silent auction, live auction, a mega school tag sale and antique road show appraisal session, according to Susan Martindale, administrative assistant, Valley Christian School. At press time, more than 50 families have signed up to participate in the tag sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with all proceeds raised to benefit the school's general fund. Representatives from Kimball's of Easthampton will also be on site from 2 to 4 p.m. to conduct an antique road show by appraising items for area residents at a cost of $5 per object. Later in the day, a 90-minute silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and includes more than 100 gift items to bid on. Items will be auctioned off in blocks, according to Martindale. Lastly, a live auction starts at 7 p.m. and will feature a wide range of items including quilts, Amish furniture, a pearl and diamond necklace, an antique clock and a host of gift baskets. Themes of gift baskets range from chocolates and baked goods to soups, the movies and the beach. For persons who collect memorabilia of well-known musicians and athletes, special autographed items up for bid range from a hockey puck to signed T-shirts, photographs and CD's. The Valley Christian School offers classes from preschool through high school. For more information on its fundraiser, call Martindale at (413) 533-8544. |
