By Lori O' Brien Correspondent SOUTH HADLEY For horse riders who are counting the weeks before they can get back in the saddle, a fun evening of socializing is planned by the Granby Regional Horse Council (GRHC) to address the winter doldrums. Billed as a "Cabin Fever Party," GRHC members will host the event on March 11 at the Polish American Citizens Club on Route 202 which is open to the public. Karen and Herb Everett of Granby are chairing this year's event which includes a hot buffet from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by dancing from 8 to 11:30 p.m. to the tunes of the Charlie Galvin Band. A cash bar will be available all evening. Doors open at 6 p.m. During an interview with Reminder Publications, Herb Everett explained that the annual event is a perfect time for persons who have horses or who enjoy riding to socialize and talk about the upcoming season and annual trail rides. The Everetts have had one horse, "After Me's Jericho," for 12 years, even though Karen Everett is the rider in the family, according to Herb Everett. The GRHC is a nonprofit organization that runs competitive and recreational events, as well as equine educational programs. The group also actively works to protect, maintain and enhance open space for equestrian use. A 50/50 raffle will be conducted during the evening and proceeds raised from the fundraiser will help defray the cost of the organization's yearly programming. Door prizes will also be given out during the course of the evening and individuals or businesses still interested in making a donation may do so by contacting the Everetts. Door prizes do not have to be related to horses. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $25 per person, $10 for ages six to 15, and free for children ages five and younger. Tickets are available at the Stonebrook Sattlery on Route 202 in Granby, the Pleasant Brook Farm & Feed, 84 Pleasant St., Granby, at the Sackett Ridge Sattlery, 1110 Southampton Road, Westfield, or by contacting the Everetts at (413) 467-2913 or via e-mail at jerbear4@yahoo.com.
