|SOUTH HADLEY Anne Vittoria of Chicopee recently traveled to London and Wales on a concert tour with other Mount Holyoke College Glee Club alumnae during the month of July. Vittoria is an alumna of Mount Holyoke College, class of 2005.|
As a member of the Glee Club alumnae choir, Vittoria, along with 68 other women, ages 20-77, drawn from 29 states, gathered at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley on June 30 to begin rehearsing for only two days with conductor Catharine Melhorn. The group's first public concert was held at the college on July 2 and the following day the choir departed for London.
While in Great Britain, two concerts followed one at London's Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair, and one in collaboration with a male voice choir in the village of Chepstow, Wales. The group also traveled to Llangollen, Wales to compete in the female choirs division of the world-famous Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, and was invited to represented the USA in the final festival concert on July 9.
These alumnae singers, representing a wide variety of professions and class years, each have in common participation in the Mount Holyoke College Glee Club, a distinguished ensemble founded in 1875. Although the student Glee Club has participated in numerous tours and festivals, including Harvard University's prestigious Festival of Women's Choruses, this is the first time an alumnae choir has assembled for a tour.
Mount Holyoke College is one of the nation's finest liberal arts colleges. Rigorous academics and an internationally diverse student body create an environment that prepares women to meet the challenges of our increasingly complex world.
