Allen Park Tenants will join 'Night Out' activities

SPRINGFIELD Allen Park Tenants Association and WinnResidential Management in partnership with the community of Springfield will be standing strong in unity on Aug. 2, between the hours of 6pm to 9pm.

The residents within the Allen Park Apartments community will be locking their doors, turning on their outside lights and heading over to the community building grounds 251 Allen Park Road, to celebrate "National Night Out" giving crime a going away party.

There will be educational awareness booths from several Springfield community agencies; Police Domestic Prevention, Community Anti-Drug Coalition of Hampden County, Partners for Community Action, Department of Social Services, Downey Side Adoptions, Thom Infant & Toddler Services, Citizens Bank, the Caring Center, the Molly Bish Foundation will be providing child ID kits, Christ Presbyterian Church, there will be several emergency vehicles for youth to climb upon; Police Vehicle, Fire Truck, the Westfield Army National Guard will be delivering a Hum-V, Massachusetts State Police motor cycles, Hampden County Sheriff Dogs, and the AMR-KEV van will be on site.

Opening ceremonies will began at 6:15 p.m. with Keshawn Dodds from the mayor's office, there will be several community awards given out; the Allen Park community has received the Community of Quality from the National Affordable Housing Management Association this award will be presented to the Allen Park Tenants Association President, the Caring, I Make A Difference and the Joan Brooks awards will also be presented during opening ceremonies.

There will be a free cook-out, fresh popcorn, cotton candy for all to enjoy, the Melba Shriner clowns will be making balloon animals, come and have your face painted by Princess Cinderella, Magic Al the magician and a stilt walker will be roaming the grounds through out the event, there will be a special appearance from Batman, Superman & Spiderman, there will moonwalks, dunk the criminal, hi-strikers, pony rides for the young, double shot basketball, nutrition bingo and raffles.

Opening the event "The JJC Sunshiners"; singers of note, a DJ "Okey Dokey Karaoke will be playing tunes through out the event, there will be a crowd pleaser Hip-Hop performance by "Busted Fro", the evening will end in a glow stick parade with "Screech" of the Springfield Falcons leading the community in unity through the neighborhood shouting this is our neighborhood and we are taking it back!

National Night Out is an annual event that is celebrated each year in thousands of neighborhoods nationwide. This special event gives communities the opportunity to come together to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, to strengthen neighborhood spirit and celebrate police-community partnerships.
