BID announces line-up for free Stearns Square concerts

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Business Improvement District (BID) is excited to announce a great lineup for the 2005 Stearns Square Free City Block Party Summer Concert Series, which will begin on July 7 and run every Thursday night through September 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Springfield's Stearns Square.

7/7 -SHEMEKIA COPELAND

What a way to kick off the 2005 season! Quickly conquering the blues community - she holds four W.C. Handy Awards, five Living Blues Awards, and a Grammy(c) nomination. Her passion for singing and blast-furnace voice gives her music the timeless power of the greats that have come before her.

7/14-BABY MACARONI (3/4 of NRBQ)

7/21-PETER TORK (founding member of The Monkees), JEFF PITCHELL and TEXAS FLOOD

This high-energy act with lots of mood changes will feature a wide variety of music and a showing of performers who love to play instruments they have learned to master. An evening of established musicians all on one stage!

7/28- GARY U.S. BONDS

Over the years his gritty, soulful and powerful vocals, Gary U.S. Bonds has become a baby boomer classic. Gary tours with his band, Roadhouse Rockers, performing hits old and new, some rockin' R&B Blues and generally thrilling all audiences. You won't want to miss seeing a "favorite son" of the Blues Brothers.

8/4-DAVE HOLE

This Australian guitarist, vocalist and songwriter will perform the blues showcasing his unique sound and style all his own. Critics and fans have declared Hole as one of the most exciting and original slide guitarists in the world.

8/11- BAY CITY ROLLERS

In the 1970's one in four youths was a Bay City Rollers fan and they sold records by the millions. The Bay City Rollers are still one of Arista Records biggest selling artists, with 13 gold singles to their credit. Enjoy listening to many of their well-known Top 40 smashes that will take you back in time.

8/18-ROOMFUL OF BLUES

A Stearns Square favorite! The band's deeply rooted, horn-driven blend of music, rock 'n' roll, jump, blues and soul has earned them five Grammy(c) Award nominations and four W.C. Handy Blues Awards.

8/25-CAMPBELL BROTHERS

The Campbell Brothers share their tradition of music and praise and showcase the versatility and expressive potential of the steel guitar. This rich variety of material features, rhythm and blues, soul, funk and everything in between. Their outstanding repertoire accompanied with the growling, wailing, shouting, singing and swinging voice of the steel guitar will be played as you have never heard it played before.

9/1-MISSING PERSONS w/Dale Bozzio

This show features some of their popular hit songs of the 1980's as well as material from their new album. Enthralling audiences with their electric stage presence, visual flourish and solid sound, Missing Persons delivers an exciting one-two rock punch!

9/8- IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY

It's A Beautiful Day along with Santana are considered to be "2nd wave" bands that emerged from the San Francisco bay area in the late sixties. The band can move from an almost folksie sound to ethereal to psychedelic to straight on rock & roll. You'll enjoy listening to their classic cuts such as "White Bird."
