City sells house for $1,000

SPRINGFIELD The city of Springfield is selling a Colonial Revival house at 14-16 Buckingham Street for only $1,000. The 1890-era house sits on a 7,095 square foot lot in the McKnight National Register/Local Historic District. It has three floors with more than 6,600 square feet and 16 rooms including double parlors, dining room, grand stairhall, 5 baths, 7 fireplaces, and 4th floor cuppola. The house is in need of substantial rehabilitation.

The property is zoned Business A, which allows residential, commercial, institutional or mixed uses. Income-producing uses may be eligible for federal and state 20% historic rehabilation tax credits. Affordable rental or ownership housing may be eligible for HOME funding.

Request for Proposal packets are available at Springfield Purchasing Department, 36 Court Street, Springfield. Open houses will be April 24 at 4 pm, May 4 at 2 pm, May 6 at 12 noon, May 9 at 9 am, and May 19 at 6 pm. Proposals are due May 26 at 2 pm.
