Council 'grills' patrons for tornado relief

SPRINGFIELD Manning the grill were City Councilor Kateri Walsh and City Council President Jose Tosado at a fund-raising event for tornado relief efforts at the City Council Cookout presented in Court Square on June 29.
Tosado explained to
Reminder Publications that he and Walsh have been working on an idea about how the City Council could help in the recovery effort. Walsh said that she knew the body had to do something when she and other councilors toured the affected neighborhoods the day after the tornado struck.
The two councilors spoke to Judith Matt, president of the Spirit of Springfield, to help them stage the cookout, which drew several hundred people.
For a $5 donation, diners could pick from a hot dog or hamburger, a drink and a bag of chips.
