SPRINGFIELD - A steady stream of people made their way through the MassMutual Room of the Basketball Hall of Fame from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 26, helping make the 16th Annual Life Enrichment Expo one of the most successful to date.

According to Barbara Shiffman, Senior Adult Program Assistant for the Springfield Jewish Community Center, who manned the door for the morning, nearly 400 visitors had stopped to pick up maps and information by 12:30 p.m.

In total, over 1,000 people made their way to the Hall to get

information about, and ask question of, the 60 exhibitors showcasing everything from the latest in eye surgery and holistic health trends to retirement planning and the best addresses for all-inclusive retirement living.

First-time exhibitor Joanne Schlunk, Director of the new Mercy Hospice program, had high praise for the event.

"The variety of exhibitors is helping visitors get a real sense of the resources available to them at all stages of life," Schlunk told Reminder Publications. "It's a wonderful show."

Schlunk said the Hospice program at Mercy is relatively new, having just received its license and Medicare certification in the fall of 2006. The Life Enrichment Expo was one of their first outreach efforts.

Longtime exhibitor and PRIME columnist Attorney Gina Barry, who was representing her firm, Bacon & Wilson, P. C., also felt this year's show had attracted an impressive crowd.

"A lot of people have been coming by today," she said. "Most of the people have been asking about asset protection, and long-term care and assets."

Basic estate planning was also on the mind of many Expo visitors, she added.

This year's Life Enrichment Expo was once again presented by the Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC) and PRIME Magazine, a division of Reminder Publications Inc. People's Bank, WMAS AM and NovaCare Rehabilitation were major sponsors of the event.
