SPRINGFIELD Like tag sales? Then the Maple High Six Corners neighborhood is the place to be on Aug. 26.

From 8 a.m., to 1 p.m. over 30 households will be participating in a neighborhood-wide tag sale sponsored by the Maple High Six Corners Neighborhood Council.

Council member Alicia Zoeller said that the council would have an information table at the intersection of Maple and Pine Streets where there will be a map of all of the tag sale sites and free shopping bags.

"It's an opportunity to walk one of the most historic and diverse neighborhoods in the city," she said.

The purpose behind the first-time event was to "get folks into the neighborhood, build community and neighborhood spirit and allow households to make some extra money," Zoeller explained.

Zoeller said the council is encouraging shoppers to park their car and walk to the various sales.

Besides the tag sale, the youth gardening program, "Gardening the Community," will be hosting a bake sale and a mini-farmer's market with youth-grown vegetables. The location will be on the map.

The Springfield Preservation Trust will be providing free Maple High Historic Home Walking Tour Books- a walking guide to the historic architecture of the neighborhood that will be available at the table at Maple and Pine Streets.

It's not too late for neighborhood residents to sign up for a table, Zoeller said. Interested people should call the council at 736-4493 or email the council at maplehighsixcorners@yahoo.com.
