SPRINGFIELD - May 4 at 1:30 p.m. is slated for the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new CVS pharmacy to be located at the corners of Parker Street and Wilbraham Road in 16 Acres.
According to Frank Calachino, who spoke for the project's developer, the Colvesce Group of Connecticut, invitations to the event have been extended to Mayor Domenic Sarno, members of the City Council, representatives from CVS regional management and representatives from Hampden Bank, which provided financing for the project.
The mayor's office confirmed he will attend, as did 16 Acres City Councilor Clodo Concepcion. Calachino confirmed that CVS, Hampden Bank and the Colvesce Group will also be sending representatives to the ceremony.
When completed, the CVS will replace the building which formerly housed Ameritax and Fancy Nail Spa. The buildings which contained the defunct Quality Child Care facility and ARA Convenience Store have also been razed in preparation for the project.
"They knocked the building down in one day," Concepcion said of the structure that formerly housed Ameritax and the nail spa. "They've finished building the retaining wall and now they're working on the parking lot."
He said Tuesday's ceremony will be the official start of the cellar hole for the project.
