SPRINGFIELD About 100 people participated in the second annual Budd Alan Invitational raising $1,500 in scholarship monies. Put on by the city-wide swim team the Sharks, the event was in honor of late team member Budd Alan. The Central High School senior passed away unexpectedly a year ago. Sharks Head Coach Mark Stierle said Alan was a great person. "He could make a new friend in 10 seconds," Stierle said. Six teams, who participated in the winter swim league ranging in ages four-18, swam in the fund-raiser. Between $250 - $500 will be awarded in the form of scholarships to two local seniors. Survived by his immediate family including three sisters and his father, Stierle hopes to keep Alan's memory alive by hosting the invitational for years to come. | ||||||
