WEST SPRINGFIELD – For many, the start of fall is synonymous with the Big E. While the fair has been a staple for Western Massachusetts for nearly a century, it is again garnering national attention.
The Eastern State Exposition has been nominated for USA Today’s Best State Fair.
President and CEO of the Eastern State Exposition Eugene Cassidy said to be among the top 20 fairs in the nation was a feat for the Big E.
“To be selected and recognized by USA Today is monumental. Having Eastern States Exposition in the running for this annual award will expand our reach and put us on the minds of hundreds of thousands of new and potential fairgoers,” Cassidy said. “We are honored and hope everyone in our community logs on to support ‘their’ fair nationally.”
Of the nominated fairs, 10 will be named the best in the country.
In addition to the Big E, nominated fairs include Alaska State Fair, Arizona State Fair, California State Fair, Colorado State Fair and Rodeo, Great New York State Fair, Illinois State Fair, Indiana State Fair, Iowa State Fair, Kentucky State Fair, Minnesota State Fair, Nebraska State Fair, North Carolina State Fair, Ohio State Fair, Oklahoma State Fair, Oregon State Fair, State Fair of Texas, Washington State Fair, Western Idaho Fair and Wisconsin State Fair.
The final 10 comes down to voting. As of press time, the Eastern States Exposition was ranked fifth in reader voting.
Voting is open until Sept. 28 at http://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-state-fair/. Winners will be announced on Oct. 2.
