Health Department warns town about rabies case

carley@thereminder.comWEST SPRINGFIELD – A case of rabies was confirmed in the West Side area.
On Jan. 7, the Public Health Department issued a notice advising residents that a raccoon captured of Rogers Avenue, Gooseberry Road and Beacon Hill Road tested positive for rabies.
“Call the Health Department if you or your pets have had direct contact with any raccoons,” Jeanne Galloway, director of the department, said.
She advised residents to stay away from wildlife and unfamiliar domestic animals, take their pets inside at night and to make sure to vaccinate their animals to help protect from the rabies virus.
