Library to host book talk

Date: 11/12/2008

The Friends of the West Springfield Library is pleased to announce it will be sponsoring a Book Talk at the West Springfield Public Library. Join host, Larry Lowenthal, senior editor of the book One Town & Seven Railroads: The Railroads of Palmer, Massachusetts Past, Present & Never Were, on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., when he will be discussing the creation and content of this book.

One Town & Seven Railroads is a unique book, compiled entirely by unpaid members of the Palmer Public Library Railroad Advisory Board. In addition to detailed maps and newly discovered historical photographs, the book chronicles the history of railroads in Palmer, beginning in 1839 when the first railroad reached the town border. Also included is information on the history of Palmer's notable Union Station and the adjacent park (both the work of famous architects), stories of train wrecks, and an explanation of the mystery of "The Railroad That Never Was." Join us for this informative program.

This event is free and open to the public. This event is a cooperative effort of the Friends of the West Springfield Library and Library staff. The West Springfield Public Library is located at 200 Park Street. Call 736-4561 x.111, or e-mail wgevents@cwmars.com, with any questions.
