WEST SPRINGFIELD Local stars can be seen while walking around the Big E this year.

Alicia Pelletier of Westfield took first place with her horse, "Percy" during the "Fitting and Show" category at the 2006 New England 4-H Horse Show, Sept. 21 at the Eastern States Exposition located in the 4-H arena.

Pelletier received a score of between 90 and 100. Judgement was based on interaction between rider and horse, how clean and fit the horse is, how horse is presented, and movements of horse and rider.

"I have taken lessons for 11 years," Pelletier said to Reminder Publications. "This is my last year in shows."

Pelletier, a current Holyoke Community College student, will be retiring from shows and go into helping out other 4-H members.

"Be patient, do it for fun, don't try to do it to win." Pelletier said.

Pelletier said that 4-H stands for head, heart, hands and health.

Errol Holloway was present at the Big E with his 57' Chevrolet 210. He is a resident of West Springfield and as, of last month, he has owned the car for 38 years.

Chef Noble Masi is offering cooking lessons through his live "consumer friendly" cooking show in the Young Building where he makes items such as a puff pastry apple streudal.

Masi was introduced to the food service industry through his family's bakery and attended the Food & Maritime Trades High School in New York City. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of New Haven, New Haven, CT.

At Storrowton Village you will see demonstrations from many people of the past including a rifle demonstration displaying the usage of a rifle created by the Springfield Armory in the late 1700's.
