WEST SPRINGFIELD -- Combine old fashioned social networking with today's high speed social media and entertainment industry leaders may have a recipe for success.

Greg Chiecko, sales director at Eastern States Exposition (ESE) and the latest president of the New England Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (NEAAPA), plans to use face-to-face interaction as well as the latest advances in online social networking to advance the industry.

"I am honored to assume a leadership position in this outstanding trade organization and look forward to helping navigate the intricate world of amusement facilities in the New England region," Chiecko said.

The industry is a "storied" one, he added, founded with beach and park destinations and now a multi-attraction and supplier organization.

"We have 18 board members who are from a cross section of the industry," Chiecko explained. "I don't think we're looking to change the atmosphere of parks but will also be looking at broadening our membership."

He added membership has increased to include mini-golf courses, arcades and other family entertainment centers.

"Greg will bring a lot of amusement experience to the organization, given his responsibilities at Eastern States Exposition of oversight for our ride and game operation and his year-round interaction with the Department of Public Safety and the Legislature," Wayne McCary, president of ESE, said.

Chiecko noted he gained valuable insight into the industry serving previously as first and second vice president of the NEAAPA.

"It's pretty much a four-year process [to the presidency] so I'm looking forward to a couple of years [as president], moving the group forward," he said.
