Repairs call for caution from residents

WEST SPRINGFIELD Elm Street is currently under sidewalk reconstruction.

"It is moving very fast and the whole project should be over in a month," said Jack Dowd director for the West Springfield Department of Public Works(WSDPW) to Reminder Publications last week.

The entire project deals with the Elm Street sidewalk and several issues down there concerning parking and maintenance, Dowd said.

"It resulted from 20 years ago a beautification process was using half bricks and sand in the sidewalks and we are dealing with this now," Dowd said.

New sidewalks Dowd said will use stamped concrete that will add to the appearance and aesthetic value of the area. It has the appearance of brick but is made from concrete, he said.

"And the longevity life is much more," said Dowd.
