WEST SPRINGFIELD "The tree of Life" campaign will be kicking off in August to raise funds for improvements on the West Springfield Senior Center, said Mary Ann Ventulett, a point person for the fund-drive.

"There is only so much that the City will afford us and things at the Center need to get done, like painting and furniture. It has been 25 years since our last refurbishing," Ventulett said.

Individuals can come to the Senior Center beginning in late August to obtain an application that they will then fill out with their specific donations to the Center.

They will then be given a leaf that they can put on the tree and write the name of someone who passed or is alive so that they can be remembered and honored.

The tree will be an eight to twelve feet , three-dimensional structure that will be assembled by screen printers of the West Springfield Senior Center.

The fund raiser will be followed by an open house in October in that members of the community and businesses will be invited to donate.
