Athenaeum features work of Jeanne Sarkis

The Westfield Athenaeum is featuring the artwork of Jeanne Sarkis in the Jasper Rand Art Museum throughout the month of August. Sarkis was an elementary school principal in Holyoke for 35 years. In her fifties, she took her first art class at the Holyoke League of Arts and Crafts. During the summer, she participated in classes in Holyoke, West Springfield, Springfield and Easthampton. Presently, she is a student of Barbara Cohen of Agawam. After her retirement in 1997, she discovered Florida and the Gulf Coast where she spends her winters. She still takes places in Pinellas Park with Marva Simpson and has exhibited in many art shows in the area. In addition to oil, she has recently tried water colors. She has won several awards in both mediums in Florida. The public can view Sarkis's work during regular library hours, which are: Mon. - Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
