WESTFIELD With the holiday season in full swing, Noble Hospital and the YMCA of Greater Westfield are teaming up for a Day of Health that promises to put area residents on the right track for a healthier lifestyle.

"Knowledge is power and we should all take responsibility for our health," Charlene Call, the Y's member retention/wellness director, said during an interview with Reminder Publications.

The first-ever Day of Health is planned Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 5 to 7 p.m. at the YMCA on Court Street.

While the YMCA will set up an informational table and will be promoting its "Biggest Loser" program, Call also noted tours will be available of the facility if attendees are interested.

For Noble Hospital's part, a variety of screenings are planned that range from blood pressure and body fat analysis and body mass index, to pulmonary function and sun and skin damage. In addition, hospital clinicians will offer screenings on foot care and osteoporosis. Call added that Noble's staff will also be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance for persons interested in adopting a healthier lifestyle.

"If you are really serious about ending the year on the way to a healthier you, have your cholesterol levels checked," Call added, noting that a fasting full lipid profile, a blood test, will be available for $25. The lipid profile includes total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol ("good cholesterol"), LDL-cholesterol ("bad cholesterol"), and triglycerides. Appointments for the cholesterol screening can be made now by calling Noble Health Beat at 568-2328 between 7 and 9 a.m.

In addition to offerings by the YMCA and Noble Hospital, five-minute mini massages will be provided by representatives of Therapeutic Massage of Greater Westfield, and employees of Beauty By Jeunique Custom Bras and Shape Ware will be on site to offer tips to women on having the "perfect fit."

Visitors will also be encouraged to place their name and address on an index card and drop it in a box for a gift basket drawing. Basket contents will include $25 gift certificates to Applebee's and Friendly's, a Life Fitness water bottle and T-shirt.
