~ Submitted by Mark Parry

HAMPDEN The committee to elect Mark Parry to the Board of Selectmen opened its campaign headquarters recently at 626 Main St., Hampden.

Campaign manager Joseph Schebel (former candidate for Lieutenant Governor) said Parry is the right person for the job. He said he has assisted in several republican state representative campaigns and the last Governor's Council campaign for a republican candidate.

He said he has been heavily encouraged by the Bay State Republican Council to run. Parry said he has 25 years of corporate aviation experience, extensive management experience in corporate aviation and has worked with federal government regulations and budgets "much larger than the town's current overall budget."

Parry said he is concerned about the recent announcement to raise taxes and cut services. Parry said he feels that any unnecessary tax increases will deeply effect the elderly and middle class families in town already struggling to make ends meet.

Parry said he believes taht the next scheduled property tax reevaluation will probably solve the problem, "between progressive taxes, regressive taxes, state, federal, medicare, social security, property tax, excise tax, sales tax, gasoline, cigarette tax, alcohol tax, estate tax."

Parry said he is concerned about development and the impact on the environment with traffic congestion, "as Wilbraham is finding with just one traffic light costing $300,000."

"Environmentally, the Scantic River is such a wonderful and historical resource not many New England towns have such a beautiful little river running through their town," he said.

Parry said he has lived in town since the mid-1980s and he raised his family in the public school system. He said it will be very importat to work together with issues regarding a new high school.
