Reminder Assistant Editor WILBRAHAM The 24th Annual Peach Festival "the festival that almost wasn't," according to Jennifer Nowak, financial vice president of the Wilbraham Community Association was a great success last weekend, with more than 30,000 visitors stopping by. "The community really pulled through," Nowak said. "They showed that they really do want this festival." The Peach Festival was in danger of becoming extinct earlier this year because of a lack of interested volunteers. A large group of new volunteers came together early this spring to ensure the town's yearly harvesting celebration didn't fade away. "We had great support," Nowak said. And, even though it rained Friday evening, she said the rest of the weekend was "gorgeous." Although overall attendance was a bit lower this year, individual events grew in popularity. The pancake breakfast served over 1,000 hungry visitors and the road race had 218 runners participate up from approximately 160 last year. "And the fireworks were fabulous," Nowak noted.
