Local businesses raise funds for woman with Lyme disease

Date: 7/9/2015

WILBRAHAM – Nine local businesses in the Wilbraham Shops on Boston Road have rallied together to raise funds for Jennifer Corey, a resident who has been fighting  Lyme disease.

During the past several years, Corey incurred thousands of dollars of medical bills as a result of her illness.

Sherry Coulis, owner of Oh So Pretties Handcrafted Gifts, said the businesses plan to donate 10 percent of their sales on July 11 and will have donation jars available in each store throughout the month.

She added that the June article regarding Corey’s condition by Reminder Publications sparked her idea to bring together local businesses in support of Corey.

“I was very moved by it and I had no idea that one of the Wilbraham residents had that happening to her and I really did not know the extent of Lyme disease,” Coulis said.

When she proposed the idea to the other businesses all of which immediately agreed with “no hesitation,” Coulis noted.

The list of participating businesses include Toy Orchard, Lately Liz Boutique, The Scented Garden Gift Shop, Common Grounds Cafe of Wilbraham, Pops Biscotti and Chocolates, Theme Cakes by Joelene, Hurley’s Children Cottage, Oh So Pretties Handcrafted Gifts, and Wilbraham Tanning.

Coulis said she hopes the businesses will raise $1,000 for Corey’s GoFundMe page, which as of July 6 has reached $6,970 of its $10,000 goal.

The businesses have created a Facebook event that can be found at www.facebook.com/events/979434585420092.
