AMHERST – The Amherst Human Rights Commission gathered with residents, members of the Town Council and the Amherst Area Gospel Choir for the 2022 Flag Raising Ceremony honoring Black History Month. The celebration took place on Feb. 1 at the front steps of Town Hall. Proceedings began with a few comments from the Human Rights Commission, as well as the Town Council. The Amherst Area Gospel Choir then sang, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” commonly referred to as the Black National Anthem. The ceremony ended with the raising of the Pan-African Flag on the town common to celebrate the start of Black History Month.
