Amherst League of Women Voters’ book sale returns to Fort River

Date: 7/5/2022

AMHERST – Do you have old books piling up in your house? The Amherst League of Women Voters (ALWV) is hosting their Annual book sale for the first time in two years and they are looking for donations.

The sale takes place in the Fort River Elementary School gym July 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., July 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Aug. 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can donate books in the Fort River gym from through July 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. excluding July 10.

The ALWV is looking for any books in good condition whether it be mysteries, children’s books or poetry. The only exceptions are encyclopedias, text books and magazines. They will also be accepting CD’s and vinyl records. The chair of the event Cynthia Brubaker, who has been in charge of the sale for 20 years, expects a larger turnout than the thousands of attendees it already sees each year after a two-year hiatus.

Brubaker said, “We have thousands of books in all categories, there will be something for everyone.”

The book sale will accept payment by cards for the first time as well as cash payment for the books that are priced $1 to $2. The proceeds of the event will go towards the ALWV and their goal of increasing voter registration, voter turnout, and civic education in schools. Due to COVID-19 concerns the gym housing the event will have its doors open and fans ventilating the room to help reduce the risk of COVID-19.
