AMHERST — Town Finance Director Sean Mangano will be leaving his position, a post he has held since 2020.
In an announcement issued by the town, Mangano offered praise for the members of the finance department.
“While I am very sad to say goodbye, I feel a sense of comfort knowing the town is in great hands with a stellar finance team. Many in the public do not know Holly Drake, Jennifer LaFountain, and Kim Mew who guide the day-to-day activities of the finance office. These individuals are experts in their fields and are amazing leaders for the town,” he said.
Mangano also made note of what was achieved during his tenure.
“I am very proud of our accomplishments since I started in 2020. The town has a number of exciting projects nearing completion over the next few years — including a new elementary school, new library, new water treatment facility, new track and field — that will provide tremendous benefits to residents.”
Town Manager Paul Bockelman called Mangano’s departure a huge loss for the town, the Town Council and for him personally.
“Sean has been a strong, creative leader for the town and the school district before he came to the town side of government. He has a steady hand, consistently delivers high quality work, possesses a strong strategic vision, and just has a wonderful ability to listen and adjust based on constructive input. He provided key leadership in rebuilding the Finance Department with great new staff after the retirement of several strong long-serving department heads.”
Mangano spent nine years with the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District before joining the town of Amherst as finance director.
Bockelman offered his thanks to Mangano for his dedication to the town and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
“Working for the town of Amherst can be hard, but Sean was always able to maintain a positive attitude,” he said.
Mangano acknowledged his decision to leave was a difficult one.
“I want to acknowledge the people that made this job rewarding and exciting each day. First the staff of the town. I have had the opportunity to work with every department and can confidently say the town is fortunate to have so many dedicated and talented individuals at every level of government. I want to thank all department heads; each one is amazing and provided tremendous support to me when I was new in the role. I also want to thank all the elected officials and committed volunteers serving on committees that I have worked with over the years. Supporting these committees was one of the best parts of my job,” Mangano said.
Mangano said he is returning to a school finance leadership position in another community. His resignation takes effect Aug. 30.
