AMHERST – Residents driving through downtown Amherst the morning of Dec. 10 might’ve seen a man doing trick basketball shots from the top of an Amherst Fire Department (AFD) truck outside the department.
That man was former Harlem Globetrotters player and current coach Handles Franklin, doing a press event for the upcoming Harlem Globetrotters performance at the Mullins Center on the University of Massachusetts campus on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m.
Franklin, who mentioned he wasn’t great with heights, stood atop the AFD Truck and made an announcement to the public in attendance and on video of the upcoming Globetrotter event and how glad he was to be back in Amherst.
Franklin made shots both forward and backwards before wrapping up the stunt and meeting some members of the department.
