Holiday Arts Market comes to Amherst's Mill District on Nov. 18

Date: 11/14/2023

AMHERST — The Mill District General Store and Local Art Gallery is presenting their first Holiday Arts Market on Nov. 18 to showcase not only the store’s variety of goods for sale but also the work of local artists and their creations.

Store Manager Molly Crookes said the business at 91 Cowls Rd. provides an old school general store vibe with a modern twist as well as creations from area artisans.

“You can find about anything in the store that you need and anything that you don’t need,” she said.

To bring even more attention to the store and the latest activities in the Mill District, the arts market will provide members of the community an opportunity to shop and mingle in an indoor and outdoor setting complete with live piano music coupled with tented and heated areas to sit and enjoy s’mores adjacent to the neighborhood’s business hub, including the newest enterprises, Futura Coffee Roasters and Carefree Cakery.

The market will present more than 50 local artists and creators, many of whom will be standing alongside their work to describe the inspiration behind their pieces and provide the community with some education about their genres.
Items like clothing and soap along with traditional art pieces will be on display and for sale.

The store and gallery each feature wares from the region and shoppers will find the same at the market, Crookes said.

“They all are from Massachusetts and have to live an hour from our store location,” she said. “So, when we say local artists, we mean local artists.

The Holiday Arts Market is Nov. 18 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

“It really is just meant to be a really great holiday shop day,” Crookes said.
