BELCHERTOWN – On Oct. 23, Alden Credit Union will be hosting a Pawsome 5K run/walk from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its branch located at 175 State St.
All proceeds will benefit Kane’s Krusade.
Kane’s Krusade is an organization that was founded in 2011 by Kim George of East Longmeadow. The goal of the organization is to keep loved dogs with their forever families.
Kane’s Krusade distributes food and equipment while sponsoring vet care, spay/neuter services, dog training, plus counseling and resources for dog-inclusive housing.
George said, “When we help a family with their dog, we are helping more than the dog. We are sending a powerful message. Your dog matters. You matter. Kindness matters.”
The run/walk is open to the public. Dogs are invited too but they must be leashed, friendly, and vaccinated.
The event will include prizes for 5K participants in different age categories, goodie bags while they last and a Halloween costume contest for people and dogs.
Registration fees are $30 for adults, and $15 for students, age 9 or older. Kids under 8 are free.
She added, “We love this event and because of [COVID-19] we have not been able to put it on in two years. We are excited to get back into the mix for fundraising efforts. I think people are eager to get out and do things in groups again and we look forward to a fun day.”
President and CEO of Alden Credit Union Adam Corcoran is an animal lover who sees how much dogs mean to local families.
He said, “As a community credit union, we are here for local families and the dogs who love them. It is our pleasure to assist Kane’s Krusade in their mission to help one dog at a time stay in their homes. We hope your family and your four-legged friend can join us for our 5K run/walk. We are proud and excited to host a community event that will help keep dog families together forever.”
Participants are encouraged to pre-register at www.pawsome5k.com.
