BELCHERTOWN — The Recreation Department and Committee will be hosting a memorial event for Nancy Kwiatkowski on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m.
Kwiatkowski died in September 2022 at 68 years old.
Family and friends will gather and speak about what Kwiatkowski meant to them and the town.
They will also be placing a plaque in her honor outside of the Recreation Department conference room.
“The talk by the Recreation Committee is they wanted to do something to honor her years as a member of the committee because she had probably been on for 30 plus years,” Recreation Department Director Kyle Thibeault said.
He added, “We are looking to do something in her honor to highlight what she had done for the community through the [Recreation] Department.”
According to friend and current Recreation Committee Chair Tilo Schiffer, he said Kwiatkowski has been involved with the Recreation Department dating back to when Ron Constantino was hired as the first rec director in Belchertown.
She was also a founding board member of the Belchertown Youth Sports Association which supported youth sports and HS sports in town.
“She was a master in fundraising to support the many programs provided early on. Nancy served on the [Recreation Committee] in many capacities over the past 30 plus years. She was an advocate not only for youth sports but for recreational programs that served the community,” Schiffer added.
