Belchertown youth crafters to display their work

Date: 5/23/2023

BELCHERTOWN — Two volunteers have set up the first annual youth crafters showcase where youth from the community can show off and sell their work.

The event will take place on Friday, June 2, from 4-7 p.m. in Old Town Hall, 28 Park St.

The hosts of the event are Renee Moynihan Kelsen and Katie Wajda.

Kelsen said her daughter and niece make their own crafts and they came up with the idea of wanting to sell their items while also hosting a food drive.

There are approximately 23 different tables registered for the event so far.

“Some kids do it by themselves, some kids do it with a sibling,” Kelsen said.

Artists range from ages 6-16 and items include key chains, blankets, masks, jewelry, bookmarks, plants, wooden bowls and much more, according to Kelsen and Wajda.

Anything the crafters earn is theirs, so Kelsen hopes to see a good turnout.

“I hope people come out to support young kids and their ideas. It is a great event we have set up,” Kelsen added.

Not only will crafters be selling their own homemade goods, but they will also learn valuable life lessons.
Kelsen and Wajda hope the event will also teach children the importance of hard work and dedication.

Kelsen added, “We want everyone to be creative and working hard at something that you like and that you enjoy and that you are passionate about. It will also be a learning experience for them to deal with money. You generally have to spend some time and creativity in order to be prosperous and learn about money at the same time.”

There is no cost to attend the event but Kelsen and Wajda are asking if community members can bring a non-perishable item for donation upon entrance.

All items will be donated to a local food pantry.
