Belchertown Farmers Market returns beginning June 12

Date: 6/6/2022

BELCHERTOWN- Ahead of the Belchertown Farmers Market’s June start date, Market Manager Brittni Robidoux sat down with Reminder Publishing to discuss the upcoming season.

Robidoux said market goers have plenty of vendors to look forward to this year.

“We have a lot of returning vendors, we have eight farmers, and we are going to have a chicken vendor starting in July on top of all the other farmers we had last year. We have about 11 artisans – a lot of them are returning and then we have a few that were at our winter market that are going to join us for the summer,” she said.

Some of this year’s vendors include Auntie Elsie’s, Cold Spring Soapery, Spice by Rachel and more. The full list of vendors is available on the market’s website. Robidoux added that Batch Ice Cream will also be bring its ice cream truck back for the 2022 season.

Robidoux added the vendors vary from week to week.

“We’ll have 19, some of our vendors probably like half of them are part time, so you’ll see them either once a month or every other week and they’ll alternate with different dates and we’ll have those on our website,” she said.

Robidoux said one of her goals for this year is to make everything available for purchase through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“This year we are doing a sponsorship program and it is going pretty well, so we are hoping to get SNAP going for the whole market. I think that’s going to be really important for our community,” she said.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Robidoux said the market saw one of its biggest years ever in 2021.

“I think last year was one of our biggest years because I think everyone by that point was ready to get out and about and have family time. But definitely with a lot of our vendors, COVID [-19] did impact it, so the market has been really resourceful for them, which is awesome for me,” she said.

Robidoux said she is looking forward to the market this year.

“I’m really excited to see everyone again that I worked with last year and to get our SNAP program going. We’re just excited to see everyone again and have a good community spot for the summer,” she said.

The Belchertown Farmers Market begins on June 12 and runs Sundays through Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
