Neighborhood church in Belchertown plans for annual tag sale

Date: 8/15/2022

BELCHERTOWN – On Aug. 27, the Belchertown United Church of Christ will be having their annual tag sale from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 18 Park St. on the grounds between the church and the Parish House, as well as inside the Parish House.

“We take just about anything that is clean and worthy of selling,” said Event Coordinator Donna DeRoin. “There’s a lot of stuff you don’t want to throw out, but someone else could find some value in. Those are the kinds of things we look for.”

She continued, “We have a whole area of gently used clothes, kitchenware, exercise equipment, knick knacks, glassware, holiday decorations and home décor. The things we don’t take are air conditioning units, TVs, computer items or car seats for babies and little kids.”

The Belchertown United Church of Christ has been hosting the tag sale for over 10 years. When they first started, the Board of Christian Ed organized it, and the church did it to raise money to fund the Christian Ed program. They have received donations from the congregation or friends of the congregation.

This year, the money raised from the sale will go toward renovations of the Parish House and the Christian Ed program. DeRoin said typically what the church does with left over tag sale items is they donate it to places that would need them. They will donate books to one of the area libraries that would like them, and clothing to a shelter.

The church has raised anywhere between $1,500 and $4,500 at the tag sale, depending on what type of donations come in that year. DeRoin said she hopes they get a good crowd, the weather cooperates and they raise more money. The church will be accepting donations on Thursdays from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.- 7 p.m. up until the evening of Aug. 26.

“All of the hard work that goes into the tag sale comes back to being able to beautify the church and hopefully bring more people into the church,” DeRoin said.
