EASTHAMPTON – The Pascommuck Conservation Trust’s (PCT) fall plant sale is returning to the fold on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the City Hall complex parking lot on 50 Payson Ave.
According to Sue Walz, a PCT board member, the plant sale typically occurs twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.
The annual event is one of two fundraisers that support the nonprofit’s land protection efforts, as well as the trust’s trail maintenance and trail-building efforts. The first PCT plant sale was spearheaded in 1987, according to Walz.
“The PCT sells perennials that are donated from local gardens and also has books, planters and various other garden items,” said Walz, adding that plant donations are needed and accepted by 8:30 a.m. on the day of the sale. “The PCT welcomes plant donations and plant sale volunteers.”
The PCT’s popular raffle will also once again occur during the sale with “generously donated items.”
“This year there are three items donated by Susan Bishop and four gift baskets donated by Terry Perrea,” Walz told Reminder Publishing. “Easthampton Savings Bank generously displays the items in their lobby and sells tickets for the PCT prior to the plant sale. The drawing takes place at the plant sale at the end of the morning.”
The PCT is currently celebrating their 40-year anniversary of protecting open land and farmland in the community. The PCT acquired its first parcel of land for preservation in 1982, and currently stewards a total of 16 properties, many of which offer walking trails throughout the city of Easthampton.
They celebrated the milestone with a commemorative event at John Bator Park back in the summer.
