ENFIELD, CT – AmyCakes Baked Goods is a licensed home bakery offering cupcakes, cakes, pies, cheesecakes and cookies. Everything Owner/Baker Amy Guindon-Bourget makes –from her cakes to caramels – are from scratch.
AmyCakes’ top sellers are her chocolate peanut butter cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies. “It goes back to comfort and nostalgia,” Bourget explained. “Those are classics and I know myself, those are always go-tos.”
Bourget focuses on unique flavor combinations, and overall, a good tasting product; making products with uncommon flavor combinations – something outside of the box of chocolate and vanilla. Some of her flavor combos include a black sesame cupcake with lemon curd filling and a black sesame buttercream, a blueberry goat cheese basil pie, a strawberry cupcake with Rosewater buttercream, ruby ganache drizzle and rose petal garnish, a jalapeno lime margarita cupcake with a tequila lime buttercream and a jalapeno sugar dusting, and a Shirley Temple, which is a Sprite cupcake with lime zest, pomegranate and cherry buttercream, a grenadine drizzle and a cherry on top.
“I love the funky flavors and fun combinations because I really get to play in the kitchen,” Bourget said. “That’s my go to. It’s great to make flavors people like. The traditional flavors that they normally want, but my passion is just coming up with amazing unique flavor combinations. It’s so much fun.”
Bourget has always liked to bake, but this business was not her first career. She was an early education teacher, taught preschool and was a nanny for many years. When her last child went to preschool, Bourget decided she wanted to do something different.
“Baking was something that I really love, so I gave it a go,” Bourget said. “Little by little through word of mouth it slowly evolved into a business. Not only am I providing a great service in the form of great baked goods and really unique products, but I also try to be a part of my community and give back.”
Every month Bourget does a Cupcake of the Month Club where customers get six cupcakes for $15. The membership is three months at a time. Bourget comes up with the flavor combinations, then once she launches the cupcake for that month, it’s on the menu for customers to buy whenever they want to order them.
Bourget told Reminder Publishing that the community and her customers have been overwhelmingly positive. She said they appreciate the quality and artistry of her work, along with her bold flavors. Right now, she noted her goal is to keep putting out good products and reach a bigger customer base so people can try her innovative baked goods. On Oct. 8 and 22, Bourget will be working at R Dee Winery’s outdoor markets, and on Oct. 15, she will be doing “Christmas in October” at the Mount Caramel Craft Show in Enfield.
“I love what I’m doing,” Bourget said. “It’s fun and different. I’m in a position where I can support my community and be a part of the community which I really like. I’ve met so many wonderful people in town since I’ve launched my business.”
She continued, “I’m building partnerships, working at various craft fairs and meeting all sorts of people in all walks of life. It’s been wonderful ... and kind reviews every day from people which I think is why my business has done well.”
