Enfield Public Library continues holiday tradition with Festival of Trees

Date: 12/7/2022

ENFIELD – The Enfield Public Library is kicking off the holiday season and continuing its annual tradition of the Festival of Trees. Anyone who lives, works, goes to school or visits the library in Enfield is able to participate in the event.

The library is seeking submissions of holiday trees made out of unusual materials.

“It’s not a typical artificial Evergreen tree that you decorate. We’ve had trees made of gumdrops and marshmallows, pine cones, plastic spoons, corks, lollipops and all sorts of different things,” said Enfield Public Library’s Children Coordinator Lisa Ellis.

Trees should be free-standing and no larger than 2 feet wide, 1 foot long and 3 feet high. The library cannot guarantee that trees will have access to an electrical outlet.

All tree submissions should be brought to the library by Dec. 13.

An opening night reception will take place on Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. There will be two musical trios from Enfield High School that will perform while people view the trees and the Enfield Cultural and Arts Commission will provide cookies and refreshments.

The trees will be on display until Dec. 31.

Ellis said that the library typically receives between 25 to 30 tree submissions.

The event continued during the coronavirus pandemic, but according to Ellis, they did not have as many participants.

“We’re hoping that this year we’ll see a resurgence and get a lot of trees,” she said.
Ellis said that she is most excited about seeing the community come together to celebrate the holiday season.

“It’s a good way to get in the holiday spirit and it’s nice because I’ll see kids that haven’t been to the library since the summer due to school. It’s a great event to bring people together to celebrate the holidays,” she said.
