ENFIELD, CT – The Enfield Regional Farmers Market recently hosted their winter farmers market at the Enfield Square Mall. Though they began the event on Nov. 15, they’ve been doing the winter farmer’s market every Sunday at the Enfield Square Mall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Dec. 19, there were between 50 to 60 vendors offering delicious eats and handmade crafts and gifts for town goers alike, such as Patty Cakes Gourmet Cupcakes, Out of the Oven’s Herb and Cheese Breads, Framed Jewelry Artwork by Donna F. Doyker and Cheryl Emrick and Terracotta Designs by Karen DiBiase.
“This is our first year that we started,” said Market Masters Connie Provencher and Danielle Flaherty through the Connecticut Department of Agriculture. “Our summer farmer’s market from July to October went so well that Town Manager Chris Bromson came to us and asked us if we would do the winter market in the mall.”
Provencher told Reminder Publishing they are six feet apart, everyone wears their mask and they have hand sanitizer at every vendor. They also have one-way walk ways to keep people from crossing paths.
“The vendors have been above and beyond. The customers who come; the new ones and the ones who come regularly every week have been awesome,” Flaherty shared. “This has far exceeded anything that we could expect with COVID and being new this year. We love doing this for the public. We love seeing the public come out, shopping local and supporting people from Enfield.”
Provencher added, “It’s brought life to the Enfield Square. People are happy to get out during the pandemic and we have set this up so they can safely enjoy the farmer’s market. Just walking in the mall and seeing the mall be so lively and joyful is amazing. This past week was unbelievable. People were so happy and we got so many compliments for being there and doing this. They told us we brought life to the mall.”
Flaherty said one of her favorite moments is seeing the vendors helping the vendors; sharing their products amongst each other and making signs for one another.
Flaherty described these moments, “Seeing the connection that everyone has been making with each other is one of my favorite parts of doing this farmer's market.”
At this time, the Enfield Winter Farmer’s Market will be hosting their last event on Dec. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We don’t know if this is going to continue past December right now and we didn’t know how this would take off like it has or what to expect,” Provencher explained. “We would like to have this annually, but we would have to sit down with the town. They saw how it kicked off this year and it worked very well. The feedback from the community is great and hopefully we can continue this.”
