SOMERS, CT – The Somers Congregational Church is hosting their annual “Anything Chocolate Bake Sale” on Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 599 Main St. This will be the first year since 2019 that the church has hosted the sale due to both a “Jubilee Year” and the coronavirus pandemic.
Members of the church will be selling their baked goods consisting of cookies, pies, candies, breads, cakes, bars and more. All items will contain either white chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate to fit the theme.
The “Anything Chocolate Bake Sale” has been a tradition of the church for over 20 years. Kathy Fuller has been the chairperson for 10 years, and said she is looking forward to its return.
“It’s fun. We have, in the past, had a pancake breakfast to go with it. We’d have chocolate chip pancakes or plain pancakes, but because of COVID-19 we aren’t going to do that this year. Hopefully next year we will go back to it,” said Fuller. “We want to make everybody feel safe and come out. I’m looking forward to doing it again.”
Baked goods will range in price from around $1 to $8. Only cash or check will be accepted, and the funds will go toward supporting the church. Ten percent of funds will go specifically to the church’s Mission Committee to help fund different mission projects.
The event is open to the public and masks are required to attend.
Fuller emphasized that this is a great event to celebrate Valentine’s Day and buy yourself or your valentine a treat.
She encouraged everyone to come out to support the sale and to even bring a friend too.
“Remember to bring your friends because friends are the chocolate chips of life,” said Fuller.
