Somers Cultural Commission seeks artists for 29th Piedmont Art Show

Date: 8/3/2022

SOMERS, CT – The Somers Cultural Commission is looking for amateur and professional artists to submit artwork for the 29th annual Piedmont Art Show, running from Sept. 22 to Oct. 2 at Piedmont Hall at 604 Main St.

Established in 1993, the Somers Cultural Commission promotes artistic and cultural activities within the town, encouraging development and participation in all activities and offering advice with planning and coordination of events in Somers. The Piedmont Art Show is a juried show and sale of original works of art by regional artists. It has been described as one of the finest small regional shows in the area. Commission member Linda Percoski originated the show. She was an accomplished painter and came up with the idea to have a regional art show in town.

“Any number of artists may apply,” said Chairman Neil Connell of the Piedmont Art Show. “All mediums of oils, acrylic, watercolor, pen and ink, colored pencil, graphite and printmaking. Usually, we’ve had 50-75 people who’ve entered from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York.”

He continued, “We hang about 80 to 100 paintings in the show. Our primary idea is to have a forum for regional artists to present their work to the general public so they can see what’s going on in the art world.”

This year, award-winning artist Barbara Gross from Vernon, CT. will be one of the jurors. There’ll be an opening reception on Sept. 18 to give out the awards. Artists can win $1,000 for the Juror’s Choice Award, $500 for the Memorial Award, given in memory of Linda Percoski, $100 for the Piedmont Award and $50 for the Merit Award.

“I love to see the whole thing put together – what people are doing, what kind of subject matter they’re dealing with and how well they’re presenting it,” Connell said,

Entry dates are Aug. 26 and 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Piedmont Hall. The cost per entry is $25 for one piece and $15 for each additional piece. For additional information and/or requesting an entry form, which is also available on entry days, please contact Neil at 860-749-4924 or visit www.somersct.gov.
