Date: 11/23/2021

HOLYOKE/SOUTH HADLEY/GRANBY – The City of Holyoke along with the towns of South Hadley and Granby are all preparing for the upcoming holiday season with a series of events, including Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and an Annual Holiday Stroll.

Holyoke

In Holyoke, the Parade of Trucks will be illuminating the streets again for the fourth year in a row. Trucks of all shapes and sizes will begin at Holyoke High School’s North Campus, 500 Beech St., on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m., where they will be judged and eligible to win first, second and third prizes. There will also be a prize for the oldest and longest distance driving truck. Participants of the trucks in the parade are asked to bring one gift to be dropped off in the police vehicle at the high school. The gifts collected will then be delivered by the Holyoke Police Department to residents of Holyoke during the holiday season. Once the parade leaves the high school, it will proceed down to Beech Street, travel down to High Street, to Heritage Park and will stop at City Hall for the tree lighting ceremony.

The tree lighting ceremony will then begin at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, with the Holyoke High School madrigal choir performing. Santa will also be there along with some other “characters.” This year there will be hot cocoa and popcorn served outdoors due to COVID-19. Parking is available at the garage near city hall and in designated areas. Please check with the Holyoke Parks and Recreation Department for more details and updates at https://www.holyoke.org/departments/parks-recreation/ or call 322-5620.

South Hadley and Granby

On Dec. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. South Hadley and Granby’s Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their Annual Holiday Stroll at the South Hadley Town Commons.

According to their website, “There will be goodies, face painting, a parade to welcome Santa and an opportunity to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.” There are more details to come, and interested parties can check on their website for updates and more information. https://www.shgchamber.com/events/2021/12/3/annual-holiday-stroll

In Granby, there will be a Christmas tree lighting at the Safety Complex at 259 E. State St. on Dec. 5 between 6 and 7 p.m. After the lighting, participants can go across the street to The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church to wait for Santa to arrive by fire truck. There will also be cookies and hot cocoa for everyone to enjoy – this activity will be indoors following the Board of Health rules at that time. Parking is available at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. More information will be posted in the coming weeks on the town of Granby’s website at https://www.granby-ma.gov/
