Granby Country Grain - a little of ‘everything’

Date: 11/16/2021

GRANBY – COVID-19 hasn’t disrupted business at Granby Country Grain; in fact, it has increased, according to Owner Paul Grenier, who said the reason is, “People are afraid to go to the big box stores where there are lots of people. We’re just so diversified; even though the sign says Granby Grains, most people drive by and just think I'm a feed store. But if you actually walk in my door, most people are actually blown away by our selection of products and our prices and service.”

Grenier stated that he is constantly price shopping, and for “eight out of 10 items, my prices beat everybody.” He said they don’t use gimmicks like coupons or special cards because their prices are already affordable, and people will save money by shopping there.

The store has been in business since 1963 with previous owners, and in the 1990s, Grenier started working there. In 2004, he and his wife bought the business. Then in 2006, they opened a sister store in Huntington called Gateway Farm and Pet – which boasts the “biggest selection of Carhartt in the area." He said that both stores are very similar, but there are differences. “We are feed stores, so anything for cows, horses, chickens – we are a complete pet center; we have all your dog and cat supplies, small animal supplies,” he explained.

Grenier said that birding is also a big part of their business, and that they sell their own custom house-blends exclusively at the store. He further explained, “We're into everything – we have a complete lawn and garden center with greenhouses – automotive supplies, hardware supplies, electrical, plumbing, clothing, toys, gifts and even pool supplies.”

He boasts that the Huntington store “probably has the largest supply of Carhartt anybody will ever see.” This location will also have Christmas items, but the Granby location will not.

They are gearing up for the holidays with their annual grain sale and other in-store promotions for the whole week of Thanksgiving from Monday until Saturday. And according to their website, in preparation for the upcoming winter weather, they have a “great selection of snow and ice removal tools and products in stock – and don’t forget pellets, coal and bio-blocks” for keeping warm indoors.
