Granby Selectboard discusses ARPA funds

Date: 12/15/2021

GRANBY – The Granby Selectboard met to discuss a variety of agenda items on Dec. 6. One topic of discussion was how the town plans to use allocated American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

A letter from a resident identified as Mr. Matthews asked the Selectboard if they have used the ARPA funds yet, how they plan to use them and if they will be looking to get input from taxpayers on future use.

According to the Selectboard, no funds have been used as of now. The town has until 2026 to use the funds, which total a little over $900,000.

Selectboard member Glen Sexton proposed the idea of having residents fill out a questionnaire at the Annual Town Meeting and having it accessible online as well.

“We could put out a survey or a questionnaire, but we’d have to come up with some of the things that it’s allowed to be used for,” said Sexton.

The town has already discussed using some of the ARPA funds for a new water system. According to Chair Jennifer Silva, nothing is set in stone and this will continue to be a topic of discussion.

The Selectboard also approved and signed the extended employment contract of the interim fire chief. Micheline Turgeon was appointed interim Fire Chief in August.

Her contract has now been extended until February 2022.

John Edwards was also given approval to begin the Dufresne Park Timber Cutting Plan. Edwards will now begin marking and estimating areas for cutting.

The meeting ended with approval of routine liquor and entertainment licenses and permits.
