GRANBY – The Granby Selectboard met to discuss a variety of items such as a new National Grid pole on Phillip Circle and an update on a previous concern of Dufresne Park safety on Oct. 4.
National Grid is proposing to continue the primary underground electricity from an already existing transformer on Phillips Circle. According to a representative from National Grid, a new house being built on the circle requires this extension. There is no existing infrastructure to bring power to the new house without it.
“It has to be brought down to the end. It ends before then,” they said.
Property abutters were in attendance to voice their concerns on this new extension. Martin Jewett wanted to know how deep this would be going and if it would disrupt existing properties and driveways. He also wanted to check on the timetable for this project.
The representative said that they are not expecting it to happen any time soon because there is still permitting that needs to be done. They said that for driveways wider than 20 feet, they would dig a hole before and after the driveway to put a conduit underneath it. National Grid would then fix any damage necessary.
Another abutter, Robert Hall, wanted to make sure the driveways and surrounding areas would be fixed properly. He said he would be worried about uneven patching and “terrible fixes.”
“I want it done right,” said Hall.
The representative said that this would not be a problem and that National Grid would fix them correctly. If there were any further issues, they would make sure to address them.
“I think you would just address it with us if something ever comes up,” they said.
The representative also said that before and after pictures could be taken of the driveways to make sure they are done properly and put back to their original condition.
“I do have to say that their work is pretty darn good,” they assured the abutters.
In the end, the Selectboard approved the new extension on Phillips Circle.
The meeting also discussed Dufresne Park safety. At the Sept. 7 meeting, resident Crystal Dufresne questioned the board about money allocated from taxpayers two years ago to fund park updates, studies and improvements. She now wanted an update.
There were many concerns about safety and if the park needs an official inspection. Selectboard Chair Jennifer Silva wondered if the park should be shut down due to safety concerns. However, she noted that she did not want this to have to happen.
“I don’t want to close the park down, that is not high on my list of priorities. We have very few things for the kids to do. We need that,” said Silva.
The Selectboard agreed to look further into park safety and inspections and make more of the necessary changes.
