Granby town election sees 13 percent voter turnout

Date: 5/24/2022

GRANBY – The 2022 Granby Town Election saw a 13 percent turnout that saw three contested races for the Select Board, the Board of Health and the Burial Commissioner, while the remaining positions on the ballot were uncontested.

Select Board challenger Crystal Dufresne unseated incumbent Jennifer Silva for a three-year term. In the race for Board of Health William Shaheen beat Seamus Connolly for a three-year term. Both Board of Health candidates were newcomers for the vacant position.

For the burial commissioner race, incumbent Ronald Harrop defeated challenger Stuart Bailly for the three-year term.

The rest of the races were uncontested – assessor incumbent, William Porter, was re-elected for a three-year term, as well as Town Clerk Kathy Kelly-Regan. The Library Trustees saw three new members voted in uncontested – Helen Hurteau, Michele Pietras and Candace Ribeiro.

Five-year terms were filled in the Housing Authority and Planning Board as Gloria Vivier became a member of the Housing Authority while Melissa St. Germain-Martel was voted to the Planning Board.
Town Clerk Kelly-Regan said a total of 621 voters came to the polls. This year’s turnout was similar to that of the May 17, 2021, Annual Town Election when 606 of 4,762 registered voters, or 13 percent, participated. That election featured an Early Vote by Mail option that 86 voters took advantage of.
