GRANBY – Several newcomers were elected to town boards and committees during the May 17 Granby Town Election.
Among the contested races in the town election were a seat on the Selectboard, a seat on the Planning Board and a position as an assessor for the town.
Richard Beaulieu and Stephen Anthony Chojnackic vied for a single three-year term on the Granby Selectboard. Beaulieu won the seat with 204 votes in precinct one and 170 votes from precinct two for a total of 374 votes. Chojnacki received 97 votes from precinct one and 108 votes from precinct two for a total of 205 votes.
In the race for assessor, candidates James Healy and Dakota Richards vied for a single position.
Richards narrowly defeated Healy by just eight votes. Richards was elected to the three-year term with a total of 294 votes, with 139 coming from precinct one and 155 coming from precinct two.
Healy received a total of 286 votes with 163 coming from precinct one and 123 coming from precinct two.
Nita Abbott and Dakota Richards sought election to the single seat on the Planning Board. Abbot was elected to the five-year term after receiving a total of 316 votes, with 171 coming from precinct one and 145 coming from precinct two. Richards received a total of 265 votes – 131 in precinct one and 134 in precinct two.
Uncontested races that also took place during the annual election included two incumbent candidates seeking re-election to the School Committee. Both candidates, Jennifer Bartosz and Jill Pelletier, were re-elected to a three-year term with Bartosz receiving 402 votes and Pelletier receiving 414.
Other uncontested races included Lee Lalonde who was re-elected to a three-year term on the board of health; Lynn Snopek Mercier, who was re-elected to a three-three year term as town moderator; Nicole Menard who will serve three years as the town collector; Steven Nally, who was re-elected to another three-year term as the town treasurer; and Donald Lindsay who was elected to serve five years on the Housing Authority.
Resident Gordon Landry was re-elected to a three-year term as the commissioner of burial grounds; Janice Cook was re-elected to a three-year term as a library trustee; Theresa Laprade was re-elected to serve three years as a library trustee; Denise Conti was also elected to serve for three years as a library trustee.
While there were no official candidates seeking election to an unexpired term as library trustee, write in candidate Candance Ribeiro was elected to the three-year position after receiving 24 write in votes.
In total, 604 Granby residents participated in the May 17 election out of 4,762 registered voters resulting in 13 percent of Granby voting.
