With few races, Granby election sees 4.7% voter turnout

Date: 5/23/2023

GRANBY — While turnout was low, Granby voters came out on May 15 for the 2023 Annual Town Election and decided on a handful of elected positions.

Of the registered voters in town, only 4.7% voted on election day.

In the race for Selectboard, incumbent Glen Sexton was reelected in a narrow 119-110 vote over other candidate Nathaniel Masse. Candidate for reelection in the Board of Health race Richard Bombardier was reelected in the uncontested race.

Also reelected in an uncontested race was Gregg Leonard for a three-year term as an assessor. No candidates had filed paperwork to run for the open seat on the Planning Board, but resident Nate Laflamme was elected via write-in and accepted the nomination.

In the race for School Committee there were two seats open for three-year terms but only candidate Michael Lawrence Durham was elected. Stephanie Parent was reelected through write-ins for the other position, but she declined the nomination as she was already stepping away from the committee with the completion of her term.

School Committee interim member George Bahlke was elected to complete the three-year term he was appointed to by the Selectboard and School Committee after last year’s election when the person who was elected resigned. Bahlke will serve two more years to complete the term he began last year.

The three candidates running for reelection for the Library Trustees — Nita Abbott, Paula Laptite and Kathryn Mercier — were all voted back for new three-year terms.
