HADLEY – The Hadley Memorial Day Parade returned to Route 9 and West Street in Hadley after a two-year hiatus from COVID-19. Hundreds of residents lined the streets on May 29 where veterans, antique cars, youth organizations, local farmers, town officials and more started the parade at 2 p.m. at the Olde Hadley American Legion Post 271.
The parade ended at the site of Hadley’s first 1665 meetinghouse and refreshments were offered back at the Legion to conclude the service. Prior to the parade, licensed, volunteer bus drivers transported veterans, town officials, Hopkins Academy marching band and scout troops of the town to the Russellville, Plainville, Old Hadley, and Hockanum cemeteries where present community members heard a prayer and the firing squad present with taps played by high school buglers.
